I've tried contacting Realtek support about this, and all they tell me to do is to blow away the drivers and reinstall them or let Microsoft automatically install the default HD audio drivers. I have a mic and a headset but neither work on my new computer that I built the other jacks don’t work either but there is a little bit of input static. I've also tried both mic inputs and the line input and it's the same result as well - no recording at all. I've verified that the microphone itself is ok by using it with my Windows 7 laptop to record and play back what I've recorded, so that piece of hardware is ok. I've verified in the Sound properties that it detects that the microphone plugs in, but it won't detect me speaking into it or any sound level changes for that matter. I had downloaded the latest drivers from the Realtek site for my motherboard (Biostar Tpower X58), but for some reason my microphone refuses to work in any way shape or form. After reinstall, I managed to get everything working except the microphone inputs. Recently I decided to reinstall Windows Vista 64-bit Ultimate Edition on my system. I'm at my wits end with this particular problem.
